Chapter 14 Review

 mrw success communism proletariat glories

This week in class we reviewed chapter 14 in the textbook and this is what it was about and my thoughts. The chapter was overall about how to make effective argumentative essays. Some of the best advice the chapter gives to make argumentative essays more effective by using emotion, credibility, and logic in the right ways. An example for emotional appeal to make an argument is to make the audience feel empathy for your cause. You can say that your new policy is going to help animals by providing them shelter, it tugs on the audiences heart strings to get what you want. An example for using credibility in your writing is by saying you are an expert in the field you are studying and providing a degree. And finally for logic the writer has to simply make sense without contradictions. If it is an essay about two view points and you take a side it is a good idea to discredit those arguments using logic and credibility. Emotion can be used to make the writers beliefs seem more ethical as well, that why emotion, logic, and credibility is so important. The chapter also says to include opposing view points and always remember there are always more stances to take on an issue. Overall I think that is the most valuable information from the chapter and it was very interesting and well put together.
