Jon Gibbons Interview

Today we did an activity here in the realm of English 121 and asked other students about their experiences with english classes and goals. Jon has been an inactive reserves veteran for almost two years now, as of February first. Currently he is working hard toward video game psychology, which is pretty intensive on computer science and working well with people. Jon usually would write memorandums before and often notes to people, usually nothing super formal or resembling an academic essay. He was able to joke the most formal he usually writes is angrily to his landlord when they are making stupid mistakes. He hasn't had a ton of training writing formally nor experience with instructors; most of what he was writing was highly focused on content and structure didn't matter nearly as much. Although Jon mainly would write memos, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have technical knowledge. Jon, like most of us has grown up with computers; since he was five he said, so he can navigate the internet well. Again, like most of us are, Jon is also great at social media. Since just starting his first semester at Front Range, Jon isn’t familiar with the campus library, although totally could be in the future. Jon is looking to transfer to the University of Colorado Boulder after Front range, continuing to pursue game psychology and work towards a bachelors degree. With all of this work in front of him, he set out a few goals; specifically for english he wants to get much better at writing clear and concise arguments without rambling. It’s very common for writers of all kinds to ramble or just restate previous thoughts, but with a little revision can make huge improvements. Since Jon really doesn’t have any other problems with English, presentation will be huge. I was actually pretty similar to Jon to, where I just wanted to be able to make a clear argument written well, so I’m sure that’s a common desire. It was really awesome to meet Jon and get to know a little of his backstory, since it’s pretty unique and really has a cool idea for the future set out.
